Stone Maintenance
Marble and Granite Care Professionals advises annual natural stone maintenance of stone floors, countertops and baths in order to minimize the possibility of costly stone restoration and problem resolution. Typical stone maintenance involves resealing the various surfaces and removing any etchings that may have cropped up in the interim. Recaulking in showers and at backsplashes is also a common maintenance activity. Annual reminder cards are sent to keep time from getting away from busy homeowners.
Problem Solving
Unfortunately, even the best maintained surfaces will be subject to accidents and wear and tear. Cleaning services often will inadvertently etch marble or limestone, or damage the interior of a stone shower. Dull surfaces can be repolished, etchings and scratches can be removed, dark stones can be color-enhanced, and grout can be refreshed or repaired. Once these corrective measure are taken, regular maintenance can usually keep significant problems from cropping up again.
Advice
Not all varieties of stone or finishes are good choices for every application. Sometimes a sensitive marble is a poor choice for a kitchen. Or a honed version of that marble may be a better choice. Tumbled flooring may give the right “look” to a room, but its care may be more trouble than it’s worth. Knowing the best stone for particular residential and commercial applications often comes from experience. With over a decade of stone care experience in hand, there are few circumstances that haven’t already been dealt with elsewhere. Designers often come to Marble and Granite Care before specifying a stone choice, and in doing so often save both themselves and their clients a good deal of heartache.
